What is Ransomware attack | How to Work Ransomware

What is Ransomware.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) that encrypts the victim's files, making them inaccessible to the victim, and then demands a ransom payment from the victim in exchange for the decryption key. The victim is usually given a time limit for payment and threatened with the permanent loss of their data if they fail to pay within that time limit.

How to Work Ransomware.

Here's how ransomware typically works:

  1. Delivery: The ransomware is delivered to the victim's device through various means, such as malicious email attachments, exploit kits, or malicious advertisements
  2. Execution: Once the victim opens the malware, it executes and infects their device, typically spreading to other devices on the same network.
  3. Encryption: The ransomware encrypts the victim's files using a strong encryption algorithm, making them inaccessible.
  4. Demands: The victim is presented with a ransom demand, typically displayed in a pop-up window, with instructions on how to pay the ransom. The ransom amount is usually demanded in a cryptocurrency, such as Bitcoin, to maintain the anonymity of the attacker.
  5. Payment: If the victim decides to pay the ransom, they must follow the instructions provided by the attacker to transfer the payment.
  6. Decryption: Upon receipt of payment, the attacker will provide the victim with a decryption key to restore access to their encrypted files.

It is important to note that there is no guarantee that the attacker will actually provide the decryption key even if the victim pays the ransom. Therefore, it is highly recommended that victims do not pay the ransom and instead seek help from a professional cybersecurity company to help them restore their data. This Post Create.
